Do you ever have those days where you can find everything but what you want? Today, it was brown sugar. I distinctly remembered buying it at the store, feeling the solid weight of blondies-to-be in my hands. And again chucking said potential oatmeal chocolate chip cookie ingredient into the back of the car.
But today, two days later, when I want to make said recipes, the brown sugar is nowhere to be found. I check the usual cupboards, and then, when that fails, out comes the trusty chair.
"Don't stand on chairs," I tell my toddlers as I climb on the chair. "It's dangerous."
They watch as I rummage in the cupboard. I find six cans of beans. Why the heck do I have canned beans? When was the last time I cooked with canned beans? Gawd, are these from when I was pregnant and having cravings? What is the expiration date on these things?
As I fumble with that, I realize that I have four boxes of plain gelatin behind the cans of beans. Whose kitchen is this?!
I'm afraid to look behind the gelatin, but I don't have to, because on the shelf above it I find three bags of powdered sugar, confirming at least that I'm still in my own house.
I never did find the brown sugar.

Hey, Maggie, have you checked the back seat of the car? I'm only speaking from experience. If it turns out that it never actually made it into the house, just be glad it's not cream cheese. Or sour cream. Or butter. :)
Maggie, check the fridge/freezer, I put the ice cream with the cereal once. Ah me.....

We must have the same grocery gremlin visiting our homes. I was looking for some toffee bits the other day (for cookies, of course) and instead I found an expired tin of beans as well as some lime Jell-O. Alas, no toffee bits.
Hey, maybe they're in your cupboard and I have your brown sugar?
Well! I have been looking at the store for Argo Cornstarch, I could not find it at any store. I was sure I was going bonkers. I was down to only a couple of Tablespoons. My son uses it in soups and sauces.
Well, Sunday I found it- It is in the Pink Box. So is the
Salt, decked out with a pink ribbon. So, did you put the brown sugar in the girls room? Is the sugar in pink boxes like the Argo? Think that spinning woman is fun try to pink Argo?
Oh, Yes, Look under the front drivers seat.
